BMW C Evolution electric scooter

BMW has given Americans yet another reason to be jealous of those on the other side of the Pond, as the German automaker released details on the electric scooter its Motorrad division will start selling in Europe next year. And this looks to be one fun ride, as Bimmer says the scooter will have peak output of 47 horsepower that will deliver a 75 mile per hour top speed and will be able to go as far as 62 miles on a single charge. And recharging the two-wheeler will take about four hours with a 220-volt socket.

But wait, there’s more. The scooter will feature antilock braking, torque control (no burnouts, folks) and groovy handling. C Evolution will also have four riding modes including the sportiest “Road” mode and the self-explanatory Eco mode. Last August, BMW started testing what it called a “near-production prototype” of the scooter in Europe. Additionally, last year, Mercedes-Benz parent Daimler said its Smart unit would start selling its own electric-powered scooter to the public in 2014. Daimler’s version is also said to have a 62-mile single-charge range, though only a 28-mile-per-hour top speed, so it’s not really a fair race. Check out Bimmer’s press release below.
