New Mercedes C-class saloon and estate spotted

New C-class estate and saloon spotted testing in Germany, due on sale in 2014

The new Mercedes C-class estate has been spied testing ahead of a planned launch next year.

The estate is set to grow in size alongside the rest of the C-class range. Load capacity on the car is set to rise from the maximum 1500 litres offered in the current model.

This heavily disguised test mule was spotted testing on public roads in southern Germany. A more heavily sloping rear window and a new tail light design can be seen in these photos.

Also captured on camera is the new C-class saloon, which is due to be revealed at the Geneva motor show next March. We recently saw the interior of the car for the first time, which includes a part-digital dashboard and the familiar rotary controls for Mercedes’ Comand infotainment system.

Codenamed W205, the new C-class is set to be the first Mercedes to use the company’s MRA (modular rear-drive archictecture).

Mainstream engines will include four-cylinder and V6 petrol units, ranging from a 184bhp 2.0-litre turbo to a range-topping 330bhp twin-turbo 3.0.

The diesel engine options are initially likely to include an upgraded version of the existing 2.1-litre engine in up to four states of tune, spanning 120bhp to 220bhp.
